# Tournament Rules and Guidelines
Welcome to Chess Puerto Rico Coffee tournaments! Here are the rules and guidelines for all tournament participants.
## General Rules
- Fair Play — No use of chess engines, tablebases, or external assistance during games
- Sportsmanship — Treat all opponents with respect
- Time Controls — Respect the time control of each tournament. Common formats:
- Bullet: 1+0, 2+1
- Blitz: 3+0, 3+2, 5+0, 5+3
- Rapid: 10+0, 15+10
- Classical: 30+0, 30+20
- Disconnections — If you disconnect, your clock keeps running. Rejoin as quickly as possible
- Behavior — Abusive chat or stalling (letting your clock run out in lost positions) is not tolerated
## Tournament Types
- Arena Tournaments — Play as many games as possible in the time period. Pairings are automatic.
- Swiss Tournaments — Fixed number of rounds. Swiss pairing system.
- Team Battles — Teams compete against each other in arena format.
## Ratings
- Each time control has its own rating
- Ratings start at 1500 and adjust based on your results
- Provisional ratings (fewer than 8 games) may fluctuate more
## Reporting Issues
If you suspect cheating or encounter problems, use the report function or contact us.
