Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers about how Chess Puerto Rico Coffee works.

Is Chess Puerto Rico Coffee really free?

Yes. Every feature is free for everyone: no subscriptions, no premium accounts and no paid features. The site is sponsored by PuertoRicoCoffeeShop.com.

Do I need an account?

No account is needed to play against the computer, solve puzzles, watch games or use the analysis board. A free account lets you play rated games, join tournaments and keep your rating and game history.

How do I sign up?

Click Sign up, choose a username and password and enter your email address. You must be 13 or older, or have a parent's or guardian's consent. We email you a confirmation link: open it to activate your account. If the email does not arrive, check your spam folder or contact us.

How do ratings work?

Ratings use the Glicko-2 system. New players start at 1500, shown with a question mark until the rating settles after a number of rated games. You have a separate rating for each speed (bullet, blitz, rapid, classical, correspondence), for each variant and for puzzles. Casual games do not change your rating.

Which time controls can I play?

The speed of a game is based on its estimated duration: initial clock time + 40 × increment. UltraBullet: under 30 seconds · Bullet: under 3 minutes · Blitz: under 8 minutes · Rapid: under 25 minutes · Classical: 25 minutes or more. Correspondence games give you 1 to 14 days per move.

Which chess variants are available?

Standard chess plus Chess960, Crazyhouse, King of the Hill, Three-check, Antichess, Atomic, Horde and Racing Kings. You can also start a game from any position.

Can I play against the computer?

Yes. Play with the computer offers 8 levels powered by the Stockfish engine, from beginner to very strong. No account needed.

What about puzzles?

About 3,000 rated puzzles that adapt to your level, a new puzzle of the day, and the timed Puzzle Storm and Puzzle Streak modes.

How do tournaments work?

Arena tournaments run on a schedule around the clock: join one, play as many games as you can, and score points. Swiss tournaments are organized by teams, so clubs and federations can run events for their members. Contact us if your club wants help setting up a team.

What are the fair play rules?

Getting help during a rated game — from a chess engine, another person, books or databases — is not allowed, and neither are multiple accounts, losing on purpose to lower a rating or arranging results. Moderators review reports and may close accounts that break these rules. To report a player, use the report option on their profile or contact us.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The site works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers; there is nothing to install. It is also available in Spanish.

Is my data private?

We only use your email for account messages and never sell your data. Read our privacy policy and terms of service.

How do I contact you?
